Sharon Audley Munyaka

Professional background and experience:

Sharon is a mediator, facilitator, and coach, with a background and specialisation in psychology. As a registered industrial and organisational psychologist with the Health Professions Council (HPCSA), Sharon is highly experienced in holding transformative conversations which positively adjust workplace disputes and behaviour, at individual, team and organisational levels. She does this across South Africa and beyond. Sharon uses her expertise in positive psychology to facilitate the development of the required levels of psychological capital, psychological climate, and team commitment as it relates to optimum performance in organisations. She supports leadership teams across South Africa to create focus and productivity in uncertain times and was invited by Common Purpose (UK) to be part of the global CSCLeaders 2019 cohort to answer the question of how to build resilience in cities across Commonwealth countries. Sharon is the Past President (2023/2024) of the Society of Industrial and Organisational Psychology South Africa (SIOPSA). She also serves as a Deputy Chair (Health) and as a director on the Board for Medicolegal Practice in South Africa (SAMLA). 

Sharon is a board member at Citizen Leader Lab, a non-profit focused on leadership development and working with school principals to transform education. She is a member of the Board of Thomas Science Advisory and Innovation Board in the UK. She is a facilitator with UN SDG Leadership Lab and with Ubuntu Lab. Sharon is a University of Cape Town Council Member and serves on various portfolios including being the Deputy Chair for the University Human Resources Committee. Sharon is also a Certified Principal Business Psychologist (Association for Business Psychology) in the United Kingdom and holds a doctorate in Industrial Psychology from the Nelson Mandela University in South Africa.

Mediation experience and style:

Sharon is an accredited mediator with Conflict Dynamics and the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR), with a special focus on commercial and medical negligence related matters. She has facilitated several relationship building processes in higher education institutions and has mediated conflicts in organisations (mainly at a leadership level). As well as this, Sharon is a recognised expert witness on civil litigation matters across South African courts and occasionally works on arbitration matters in the workplace. Sharon is passionate about education and recognises her vocation as a vehicle for social progress.

Facilitation experience and style:

In her capacity as a work psychologist, Sharon frequently engages in conflict resolution. She has facilitated numerous sessions across various sectors, including higher education, private enterprises, and public institutions. Additionally, Sharon conducts individual interviews to collect data on conflicts, identifying key themes to inform workshop design. In her work, Sharon applies methods she has gained as an accredited Theory U Facilitator (MIT, Presencing Institute), and during her time as a member of PI Faculty for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Leadership Labs.

Coaching experience and style:

Sharon is an accredited coach with the Results Based Coaching, Organization and Relationship Systems Coaching (ORSC), Lumina and the Enneagram, performing coaching across multiple sectors, but with a particular interest in high-potential leaders moving up the leadership pipeline. She teaches coaching modules at business schools and has worked extensively on the leadership programmes for Citibank, Nelson Mandela University Business School, Henley Business School, RCL Foods, Higher Education Resource Services (HERS-SA), Sanlam and more. Additionally, Sharon is an executive coach for Breakfast Club Africa, coaching and igniting the potential in leaders across Africa.
