Hendrik Kotze

Hendrik is a lead trainer with Conflict Dynamics on their CEDR award-winning Commercial Mediation Training Programme and has trained, mentored, and assessed numerous mediators for Conflict Dynamics since 2014. He also holds an appointment as a senior researcher at the Africa Centre for Dispute Settlement, University of Stellenbosch Business School. Hendrik currently serves as the chair of South Africa’s Dispute Settlement Accreditation Council (DiSAC), a body that regulates accreditation and practice standards for the mediation industry in South Africa. He is also a member of the ADR Advisory Committee of the South African Law Reform Commission.

Hendrik Kotze is a full-time dispute resolution practitioner. He works as a mediator and mediation advocate in commercial, socio-political, and community dispute resolution. Hendrik is based in Cape Town, South Africa, and works on various assignments in South Africa, Africa, and Europe. Hendrik qualified as a mediator in 2007 and is accredited as a commercial mediator by the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR) (UK). He also completed advanced training as a mediator in complex company/community conflict at the Graduate School of Business (University of Cape Town). Hendrik obtained his LLB in 1986 (Stellenbosch) and holds LLM degrees from Cambridge University (1990) and the University of Stellenbosch (1991). He also holds a diploma in Business Analysis and is a lecturer on several MBA and postgraduate programmes.

Hendrik started his career at the Legal Resources Centre (a social justice law practice) and then practiced as a barrister at the Cape Town Bar from 1992 - 1998. He left the Bar to pursue a career in dispute resolution, since then Hendrik has acquired extensive experience as a mediator, entrepreneur, leader, and consultant in the field of dispute management and legal technology development.
