Pippa Leisegang

Professional background and experience:

Pippa is an experienced attorney and mediator whose legal career began in the mid-1990s after completing a BA and LLB at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. She practised as a litigator for over 20 years, specialising in insurance and delictual matters, and is a long-standing member of the Legal Practice Council. Her depth of experience in South African litigation equips her with a clear understanding of both procedural and substantive legal issues and is deeply informative in her capacity as a mediator. Recently co-founding Mediating Matters, Pippa has undergone a shift in focus towards alternative dispute resolution. At Mediating Matters she works across a wide range of conflict areas including family, divorce, and commercial matters. Her expertise lies in disputes involving shareholders and closely held businesses, where her professional insight and calm, structured approach help parties navigate emotionally and financially complex situations. Pippa is a member of the South African

Medico-Legal Association and has mediated extensively in both the Road Accident Fund (RAF) pilot project and the SAMLA-led clinical negligence pilot initiatives in Gauteng and the Eastern Cape.

Mediation experience and style:

Pippa was accredited as a mediator by Conflict Dynamics in 2020. Her approach to mediation is that which centres structure, empathy, and a respect for the process. Her many years' experience as a pre-eminent litigator and in-depth knowledge of the South African legal system, together with her skills as a mediator, are beneficial to parties who are open to a facilitative approach to dispute resolution. She is particularly effective at working with legal practitioners, ensuring that mediated processes retain rigour while allowing space for flexibility and innovation.

Comments from clients:

"I recently used Pippa for a commercial dispute and was extremely impressed. Without their assistance, the matter could have dragged on for years in litigation. I highly recommend Pippa."
