Letlhogonolo Mokgoroane

Professional background and experience:

Letlhogonolo Mokgoroane is an Advocate of the High Court of South Africa who brings a rare combination of elite judicial experience and a deeply human-centric approach to dispute resolution. Their work is grounded in high-stakes legal practice and public interest problem-solving, including serving as a law clerk to Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga at the Constitutional Court of South Africa.

This background in constitutional reasoning and institutional accountability informs a mediation style that is legally rigorous, procedurally sound, and consistently anchored in fairness and administrative justice.

Beyond mediation, Letlhogonolo works at the intersection of law, policy, and organisational practice. They serve as in-house counsel at the Centre for Applied Legal Studies (CALS) at the University of the Witwatersrand, providing legal expertise across programmes and engaging in public-facing work, including policy input and media commentary.

Their work also includes human rights and policy exposure through consulting for the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) under the mandate of the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Health, including research and analysis related to the right to health, sexual and reproductive health rights, and cross-cutting issues.

Letlhogonolo holds an LLM (summa cum laude) from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in Critical Race Studies and Public Interest Law and Policy, and an LLB from Stellenbosch University. They have been recognised as a Mail & Guardian Top 200 Young South Africans alumnus and have contributed to publications addressing inequality and gender-based and identity-based violence.

Mediation experience and style:

Letlhogonolo is known for a structured, pragmatic, and trauma-informed approach to mediation across commercial, family law, and workplace and institutional disputes. They recognise that complex disputes often carry psychological, reputational, and relational pressures, whether in a workplace, a business relationship, or a family. Their facilitation balances process clarity with careful attention to power dynamics and the real constraints facing all parties. In commercial matters, this means protecting business relationships and reaching practical, enforceable settlements; in family law matters, it means supporting families to reach respectful, child-focused arrangements.

By surfacing underlying interests and supporting respectful communication, Letlhogonolo helps parties move beyond positional conflict toward workable, durable outcomes.
