Eloize Eksteen

Professional background and experience:

Eloïze is a practicing advocate and a member of the Johannesburg Society of Advocates.  She was admitted as an advocate in 1996 and called to the Bar in 2003. Her legal career recently witnessed her conferment of Senior Counsel status in 2025. Beyond her representation of clients, Eloïze brings a wealth of experience to her practice, serving as an arbitrator, mediator, and a panel member of disciplinary enquiries and investigations before the Legal Practice Council. She also served as an acting Judge in the High Court in 2024. As a committed educator, she trained pupils for over 12 years. Currently, she acts as a co-examiner of the National Bar Examination Board. Eloïze maintains a general practice with a focus on commercial litigation, particularly in contractual disputes, construction law, mining law, insolvency, administrative law, regulatory compliance, and forensic accounting. 

Her earlier career encompassed a strong emphasis on regulatory compliance, listed securities and derivatives, banking law, restraint of trades, and medical negligence. Prior to joining the Johannesburg Society of Advocates, Eloïze gained experience in criminal law, forensic accounting investigations, anti-money laundering training, and fraud risk analyses.

Mediation experience and style:

Eloïze was accredited as a commercial mediator by Conflict Dynamics in 2017. Her mediation practice focusses on commercial mediations, encompassing a broad spectrum including contractual, medical, and community disputes, and more. Her commitment to medical negligence cases is evident in her attendance at a Conflict Dynamics medico-legal mediation workshop in 2017 and her experience representing doctors facing criminal charges for alleged medical negligence. She was also a member of the South African Medico-Legal Association's multi-year pilot project dedicated to mediating claims against the Road Accident Fund. Eloïze has also undergone Conflict Dynamics training as a sexual harassment officer.
